Events 2009-10

A Swiss Government delegation comprising of Ms. Maxeline Stettler , International Division Director, Asia and Ms. Catherine Zoelling, Senior Advisor, Board of Higher Education , Canton  of Vaud , Switzerland   and a group of academicians headed by Mr. Louis Staffoni , Directueur of COFOP Centre for Professional Orientation and Training)  visited M. S. Ramaiah College of Hotel Management on 24th November 2009.

The delegation visited the college campus and held discussions with Mr. Prabhakara, CE, GEF,  Mr.  Abby Mathew, Principal and the key persons of the Hotel Management institute. The two sides discussed the modalities of an academic and cultural association which would go a long way in promoting Indo Swiss ties.

The Swiss Delegates were also extended an invitation to see a demonstration of Indian cuisine by Ms. Neena Joshi and her team of  Chefs from the Culinary Department.

Cake Mixing Ceremony - The traditional cake ceremony at the college signified the onset of the Christmas season. 

  

It includes the baking of the most delightful and scumptious goodies like marzipans, chocolates, cookies, plum pudding  and a Yule Log besides the inevitable Christmas cakes.

The college takes pride in using the opportunity to send Christmas treats made by the talented students and staff as gifts to all its associates and sister concerns.

Onam Celebrations  was held on the 4th of September .  The whole college wore a festive look with all the students and the staff donning ethnic wear and decorations of the most beautiful, “Pookkalams” (floral rangolis) in the corridors and in the classrooms.

The grand arrival of the Lord Mahabali marked the beginning of the function with the exciting beats of real temple drums “Chendas” played by the students. The students performed in front of a rapt audience “Thiruvathirakali”, a folk dance of women who assemble in their courtyards. This was followed by an enthusiastic show of “Pulikkali” which literally means a “play of the tigers” and symbolizing the victory of goodness over evil. The students then put up another performance called “Kalaripayattu”, an ancient martial art form of Kerala. The cultural program showcased “Vallamkali”, the annual boat race for which Kerala is renowned for throughout the world.

The finale of the day was the grand “Onasadhya” served traditionally on banana leaves, as would be done in homes included 23 sumptuous dishes.

Ganesh Chaturthi Celebrations   The magnificient Vigneswara idol , the floral rangoli and the coloured salt crystal rangoli adorning the floors gave the college a festive air.

 The customary annual puja and cultural programme was followed by a sumptuous  feast prepared by the students themselves and served in the traditional banana leaf service. 

Freshers Day 2009 had a theme “Desi Beats”. An expert panel of judges comprising of students of the higher classes reveled in putting the participants through several tasks and rounds of questions that tested the wit, communication, attitude and the sportive spirit. Out of all the fresher’s who vied with each other to be chosen Mr. and Ms. Fresher, the ones who walked away with the interesting and ingenious crowns were Saad Pasha and Beauti Gogoi There was also an award for Best and Most Hilarious Attire, that went to Prerana and Avayam.

Orientation Day  2009 The fresh batch of students were invited along with their parents for an Orientation on Wednesday, 15th July 2009 at 3pm.  The orientation was conducted at the MS Ramaiah Memorial Auditorium.  Mr. Venugopal Shastri, Director Finance and Administration , GEF  delivered the keynote address and Col Mrunal presided over the function.

Some of the senior students shared their experiences and welcomed them into the college. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Ayudha Puja   In keeping with the tradition across India of celebrating Dassera , a puja was performed at M. S.  Ramaiah College of Hotel Management.   The equipment and books used to impart education to these budding professionals  was blessed.
